dreams

definition: noun
1. a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep.

Genesis 40:8

the dreams we have while we’re asleep are a mystery. why do we have them? why only when we’re asleep? what’s the purpose of them? i won’t sit here and tell you what your personal dreams mean. but i can tell you that the Lord is the only one i would trust to give insight on what your dreams mean. either Him directly, or someone with the Holy Spirit that He can give insight on your behalf to help you, whether that be a trusted friend or just simply someone He uses specifically in that area.

i can tell you for sure that going to people who get their information through divination is not the way to go when it comes to explaining your dreams. in the above scripture, when the king wanted answers for his dream, he tried to consult in sorcerers and astrologists and they didn’t have an answer for him. however when he appointed Daniel to (through the power of the Holy Spirit), explain what nebuchadnezzar’s dream meant, he then got the answers he was looking for. dreams are hard to understand, but God has sense. if He wants you to know what your dream means, He will let you know. especially if you WANT to know.

tips

write your dreams down. God doesn’t always give the answers right away. there are dream journals you can buy specifically made for dreams, or you can use regular notebooks or even your iphone notes (like me). make sure to put the date you had the dream or even the year if you don’t remember the date. this is so you can date back to the dream once God reveals it’s significance.
pray about it. all of your dreams aren’t from God, so it’s important to take them before Him for dissecting. some dreams can be attacks that you will have to pray against once you wake up, some could be random, and some could be from God. this is where prayer and discernment comes in. i would not recommend googling what dreams mean, because most of the information could be rooted in divination/worldly spirituality.
go to a trusted friend/person who has the Holy Spirit and spends time with God, especially if you want them to pray about it for you. you will want someone with righteous discernment because they will want to make sure they’re honoring the Lord as well in their input and how they go about aiding you in understanding your dream.
don’t stress. i’ve got plenty of dreams i don’t have an answer for yet, i’ve had plenty that i remember from even the time where i was a child. sometimes they were reflections of my emotions.

all in all, dreams are a mystery. some people only have meaningful dreams, and others like me have a mixture of meaningful and ridiculous ones. some people don’t dream. everyone is different. as long as you keep seeking the kingdom of God and having time with the Lord, you will be fine.
